Arden Anglican School’s centennial project was a truly collaborative effort when the school decided to tell its story through short profiles of key members of the school community, past and present. Arden compiled research and undertook photography, while Hyphen took care of the editorial, design and print elements. A fun last-minute add-on was the opportunity to illustrate some of the people (and one adorable possum) being profiled!
The book was written and designed with a young student readership in mind, so it is colourful, engaging and full of fun facts scattered throughout.
When it came time to produce our centenary history, The Spirit of Arden, we had our concept and we had out title, but we also knew publishing a book was so much more than this. We knew we needed a team, comprised of a writer, editor, proof-reader, designer and printer. After meeting with three companies, we knew Hyphen was the right choice for us, especially under the leadership of Val. Hyphen stepped us through the entire publishing process with enthusiasm, grace and good humour. They ensured our publication was unique to us, reflecting our history and our community. We could not have been happier with the result!
Working on paper with colour pencil, ink and watercolour, I used energetic, coloured lines and liberal dashes of colour to give these special people a warmth and humanity that suited the Spirit of Arden. Thanks to Hyphen, the collaborative nature of the project was fantastic and it all went so smoothly.
